I WENT TO

THE STORE

ONE DAY

Flute and Vibraphone

AUTHOR'S

NOTE //

I Went to the Store One Day is my take on Father John Misty’s song of the same name, the final song on his album I Love You, Honeybear. This is easily a favorite song of mine, one of those songs that I’ve carried with me through a number of years, and that my relationship with never stops evolving (please, please go check out the original version, regardless of if you listen to mine or not). I’d been considering trying my hand at setting its melody with my own accompaniment for a while, and found the perfect opportunity when my dear friend (and fellow indie-folk-rock fan) Alexis Letourneau asked me to write a piece for her new flute and percussion duo, Safety Second. I couldn’t be happier with the result. It allowed me to find the space between two disparate genres I both adore, and make my own little contribution between them.
